1- When could the characters choose chimney ? and How ?
- On June 28th, on the fourth day .
-When they awoke to bright sunshine ضوء الشمس الساطع . and at noon
the shadow of scartaris fell on the middle chimney .

2- Which chimney did the three men choose ?
- The middle of the three chimneys .

3- How did Hans descend/lower أنزل the tools scientific
insteurments / supplies المؤن ?
- He put them in a bag and lowered them with a rope .

4- Why did the professor lean over يميل / ينحنى the chimney ?
- To watch their supplies fall.

5- How did the three men decend ينزل to the bottom of the
chimney ?
- They decended to the bottom of the chimney with a rope .

6- Who decended first ?
- Hans decended first then the Professor then Axel.

7- Describe the walls of the chimney ?
- The wallsof the chimney were very rogh , sharp rocks صخور مدببة
حادة stuk out تبرز at strang angles زويا غريبة , they used these rocks
to hold to descend .

8- What the sound did they hard as they descended ?
- The only nose was the noise of the loose rocks falling down الصخور المفككة تهوى into the black depths فى الأعماق السوداء .

9- What did the professor examine, and find out اكتشف?
- He examined the rocks . and found out that the centre of the
Earth was not hot .
- The rocks prove that تثبت أن the Professor was right . the centre of the Earth cannot be لا يمكن أن تكون hot after all على الاطلاق .

10- How were the lava rocks الصخور النارية around them ?
- they were shining/ sparked لمعت like jewels لمعت مثل صندوق الجواهر .

11- What was the next stage of their journey ?
- They entered a small passage ممر صغير that lad off يقود to the right

12- How could they find their way in the dark ?
- By a strong electric torch مصباح كهربى its light guided their way .

13- Where did they stay at the night ?
- They were in a kind of cave and there was plenty وفير of air .

14- Why was Axel worried ?
- Because they had used about half of their water .

15- What did the Professor expect توقع ?
- He expected to find underground spring of water ينابيع مياه جوفية .

16- Describe the end of the passage نهاية الممر ?
- It divided into two paths انقسم الى ممرين one going east ,the other
west.

17- Which path did they take at the end of the passage ?
- They took the eastern path الممر الشرقى .
